STEP 01

Measure the width

Measure the clear distance between the two sides of the doorway in millimetres.

  • Fixing to the wall above: add approximately 200 mm to the doorway width in total, giving about 100 mm beyond each side.
  • Fixing inside the frame: use the clear doorway width.

Example: a 2000 mm doorway with wall fixing needs a curtain approximately 2200 mm wide.

STEP 02

Measure the height

Measure from the floor to the underside of the doorway lintel.

  • Fixing to the wall above: allow approximately 150 mm extra for a suitable fixing position above the doorway.
  • Fixing inside the frame: use the clear doorway height.

Check the intended rail position and floor level before ordering.

Use millimetres: enter 2100 for 2.1 metres. The calculator accepts whole numbers only.

STEP 03

Choose fixed or sliding

Fixed: the strips hang from a stationary rail. Walk through them for access; individual strips can be unhooked when required.

Sliding: move the curtain to one side to provide clear access for larger loads or when the curtain is not needed.

Allow enough unobstructed space beside the doorway for the curtain and rail. Send a photograph if you would like help checking the arrangement.

STEP 04

Select your PVC type and thickness

Match the material to the height, traffic and conditions where it will be used.

  • Up to 3 m high: 200 × 2 mm PVC is usually suitable.
  • 3–5 m high: consider 300 mm wide strips.
  • Above 5 m: consider 400 × 4 mm PVC.

Choose standard clear for general use, freezer for cold rooms, ribbed for heavier traffic, lime-green anti-static for static-sensitive environments, welding PVC for welding applications, or blackout/frosted PVC for privacy.

STEP 05

Choose the overlap

Minimum overlap: fewer layers of PVC, a lighter curtain and easier passage, at a lower price.

Maximum overlap: more overlapping material creates a heavier barrier against draughts and temperature changes.

The overlap arrangement depends on strip width and the chosen system. Compare both options in the calculator to see their prices.

STEP 06

Choose red edge strips

Select Yes if you would like the two outer strips to be red. This helps make the edges of the curtain easier to see.

Warning strips are available in red only and carry no additional charge.

Choose No to keep the selected PVC across the full curtain.

A clear specification avoids costly guesswork

Record the doorway size, fixing position, traffic type and temperature before choosing strip width, thickness, grade and overlap.

Use photographs

A wide image showing the full doorway and surrounding wall often reveals obstructions, doors, pipes or insufficient stacking space that dimensions alone may miss.

Simple measuring guide

How to measure for a PVC strip curtain

  1. 1

    Measure the clear width

Measure left to right in millimetres. For face fixing, allow approximately 100 mm beyond each side where space permits.

  2. 2

    Measure the total drop

Measure from the intended fixing point to the floor. Leave a small clearance so the strips move freely.

  3. 3

    Check traffic and temperature

Pedestrians, trolleys, forklifts and freezer environments each benefit from different PVC grades and overlaps.

  4. 4

    Send the details

Use an online quote tool or call our team for practical advice before ordering.
