Choosing your curtain
Do I need a complete curtain kit or replacement strips?
Choose a complete kit for a new installation. If you already have a suitable rail, replacement strips let you renew the PVC without replacing the whole system. Check that any new hanging plates fit your existing rail.
What is included in a made-to-measure strip curtain kit?
A hook-on strip curtain kit includes the hanging rail, PVC strips with their hanging plates attached, and masonry wall plugs and screws. You will need suitable alternative fixings for timber, uPVC or steel supports.
Which PVC grade should I choose?
Standard clear PVC suits many everyday applications. Polar PVC is designed for low temperatures, ribbed PVC for heavier traffic, and specialist grades cover welding, static-sensitive areas and privacy. Start with our PVC grades guide or tell us about your working conditions.
What strip width and thickness do I need?
The best choice depends on curtain height, traffic, temperature and exposure. Smaller, lighter strips are easier for pedestrians to pass through; larger, thicker strips suit more demanding applications. Send us your dimensions and traffic details if you are unsure.
What is the difference between minimum and maximum overlap?
Overlap is how much neighbouring strips cover each other. Greater overlap provides more coverage but can make passage less easy. Use the option appropriate to your traffic and environment; our overlap guide shows the fitting patterns.
Should I choose a fixed or sliding curtain?
A fixed curtain stays in place while people or vehicles pass through the strips. A sliding curtain can be drawn aside when clear access is needed. Allow space for the curtain to gather beside the doorway.
What is the difference between a strip curtain and a sheet curtain?
A strip curtain consists of separate overlapping strips that you can pass through. A sliding workshop sheet curtain uses continuous sheet material that draws aside, with configuration and window options.
Can I have red warning strips at the edges?
Yes. Select red edge strips in the curtain quote tool. They are available in red and do not add to the curtain price.
What is a strip door?
A strip door is a doorway barrier made from overlapping flexible PVC strips suspended from a rail. It is also called a PVC strip curtain or plastic strip door curtain. The strips move aside for passage and return towards their hanging position. Compare strip door options.
Are thicker plastic door curtains always better?
No. Wider or thicker strips can form a heavier barrier but increase resistance to passage. Choose strip dimensions and overlap for the curtain height, users, traffic, temperature and exposure. Our PVC grades and thickness guide explains the main choices.
Measuring & getting a quote
How should I measure for my curtain?
Decide where the rail will be fixed, then measure the width you need to cover and the height from the intended fixing position. A wall-mounted curtain may need to extend beyond the doorway. Follow our measuring and ordering guide before entering your sizes.
What units should I use in the quote tools?
Enter dimensions in millimetres using digits only. For example, enter 1000 for 1 metre and 2500 for 2.5 metres. Do not include units, commas or decimal points.
Which quote tool should I use?
Choose the tool for a complete curtain kit, replacement strips, a multi-deck chiller blind or a sliding workshop curtain on our quote page. Each tool asks for the measurements and options relevant to that product.
Do I need to give my email address to see a curtain price?
No. You can use the curtain calculator and view the quote result without entering an email address. Contact details are needed later if you request a document or place an order.
Does the curtain quote include VAT?
The curtain result shows the price before VAT, marked “+ VAT”. The basket displays the subtotal, VAT and total separately so you can review them before ordering.
Can I quote for more than one curtain?
Yes. Quote each different curtain separately and add it to your basket. For identical curtains, adjust the quantity in the basket. Check each item’s dimensions and specification before proceeding.
Can I get an official quote or pro forma invoice?
You can request an official quote or pro forma invoice for your basket from checkout. This is useful when you need purchasing approval or a document for your accounts team.
What if my requirements do not fit the online calculator?
Contact us with your dimensions, application, traffic, temperature and intended fixing position. Photographs help us understand unusual layouts and advise on the next step.
Materials & applications
Can I use standard clear PVC in a freezer?
Choose a grade suited to the actual operating temperature. Polar or freezer-grade PVC is formulated for low-temperature flexibility. Check the grade’s data sheet and ask us if you are unsure.
What is ribbed PVC used for?
Ribbed PVC has raised ribs that help reduce direct surface contact and wear. It is useful on busy industrial routes, including forklift access. Curtain size, vehicle loads and traffic still need to be considered.
What colour is anti-static PVC?
Our anti-static PVC is lime green. It is a specialist material for applications where static needs to be considered. See the anti-static data sheet for the supplied test information.
Is any red PVC suitable for welding screens?
No. Colour alone does not establish welding suitability. Choose welding-grade PVC and check the product information against your process. Red edge warning strips are a different option.
What is the difference between frosted and blackout PVC?
Frosted PVC softens the view through the curtain while allowing light through. Blackout PVC is opaque and provides visual separation. See our blackout and frosted options.
Can PVC curtains be used in kennels or stables?
Yes, we offer animal, kennel and stable curtains. The size and weight of the strips should suit the animals using them. Tell us the animal type and doorway dimensions for advice.
Do you supply blinds for open-front refrigerated displays?
Yes. Our multi-deck chiller blinds are made to suit the display area. Use the dedicated chiller blind quote tool and check the cabinet dimensions and fitting position.
Where can I find the PVC technical data sheets?
Visit Data sheets & technical information to download PDFs for standard clear, polar clear, anti-static and welding PVC, plus a combined comparison sheet.
What are butchers’ curtains?
Butchers’ curtains are PVC strip curtains used across food-preparation, stockroom or chilled-store doorways. Specify the operating temperature, staff and trolley access, cleaning routine and required material evidence. Read our butchers’ curtain checklist.
Are fridge curtains and cold-room curtains the same?
The phrase can describe two products. A walk-in cold-room doorway uses overlapping strips chosen for its temperature and traffic. An open-front retail cabinet uses a made-to-measure chiller blind fitted to the display area. Compare cold-room curtains with retail fridge curtains.
Will door fly strips stop every insect?
A strip curtain is not an insect-proof seal. Overlap can reduce unobstructed doorway space, but gaps and movement remain. It should form part of the site’s wider pest-control arrangements. Discuss the doorway and insect-control requirement before choosing a product.
Can anti-static curtains be used around data-centre rack aisles?
They can form part of a suitable airflow-management arrangement while allowing maintenance access. Specify the rack layout, hot/cold aisle design, fixing positions and required electrical properties. Anti-static material alone does not certify the installed containment system. Read our data-centre curtain guidance and compare the supplied test results with your specification.
Installation & care
How do I fit the hook-on hanging rail?
Fit the supplied 1 m sections end-to-end with the hooks pointing downwards. The rail is pre-drilled for wall or ceiling mounting. Use fixings suited to the supporting material and make sure it can carry the curtain’s weight. Follow our installation guide.
How do I hang the strips with the right overlap?
Hang a first row with the correct hook gaps, then hang a second row over those gaps. The spacing depends on strip width and overlap. Use the photos in our six-pattern overlap guide rather than guessing the spacing.
Why are my new PVC strips curling at the bottom?
Strips are rolled for transport, so some curl is normal when unpacked. Let them hang and straighten before making the final trim.
How far above the floor should the strips finish?
For the hook-on strip curtain installation described in our guide, trim the straightened strips to approximately 10 mm above the floor. Use a suitable utility knife and a safe cutting surface.
How do I clean my PVC curtain?
Use water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaning or incompatible solvents that could damage the material. Inspect strips and fixings regularly, particularly where traffic causes wear.
Can I remove or replace individual strips?
Yes. Hook-on strips can be lifted off the rail for cleaning, seasonal removal or replacement. Rehang them in the correct overlap pattern. When ordering replacements, check the strip dimensions and plate compatibility.
