A secure starting point

Fit the hanging rail

Your hook-on rail arrives in convenient 1 m lengths. Fit the sections end-to-end above the doorway, with the hooks pointing downwards.

The rail is pre-drilled for either wall or ceiling mounting. Your curtain kit includes wall plugs and screws for fixing into masonry or concrete.

Choose the right fixings

For uPVC or wooden frames, steel surrounds or RSJs, you will need to supply suitable fixings. Always check that the supporting structure can carry the weight of the complete curtain.

Ready to hang

Unroll and hang the PVC strips

Once the rail is securely fixed, you can begin hanging the strips. Your kit contains enough PVC to cover the width of your doorway, with a stainless-steel hanging plate already attached to one end of each strip.

Unroll each strip and place the slots in its plate over the rail hooks. Work across the rail in two rows: first leave the specified gaps, then cover those gaps with the second row.

The PVC may curl slightly at the bottom after being rolled for transport. Allow it to hang and straighten before making the final trim.

Match your curtain specification

Set the correct strip overlap

Choose your PVC strip width and the minimum or maximum overlap specified for your curtain. The gap below is the number of exposed rail hooks to leave between strips in the first row.

200 mm wide PVC

Minimum overlap 40%

First row: 3-hook gap

200 mm PVC, minimum overlap: first row with a 3-hook gap
1. Hang the first rowWork across the full rail, leaving a 3-hook gap between each strip.
200 mm PVC, minimum overlap: second row covering the first-row gaps
2. Cover the gapsHang a second row over the first, positioning each strip across a gap.

Maximum overlap 80%

First row: 1-hook gap

200 mm PVC, maximum overlap: first row with a 1-hook gap
1. Hang the first rowWork across the full rail, leaving a 1-hook gap between each strip.
200 mm PVC, maximum overlap: second row covering the first-row gaps
2. Cover the gapsHang a second row over the first, positioning each strip across a gap.

300 mm wide PVC

Minimum overlap 57%

First row: 3-hook gap

300 mm PVC, minimum overlap: first row with a 3-hook gap
1. Hang the first rowWork across the full rail, leaving a 3-hook gap between each strip.
300 mm PVC, minimum overlap: second row covering the first-row gaps
2. Cover the gapsHang a second row over the first, positioning each strip across a gap.

Maximum overlap 86%

First row: 1-hook gap

300 mm PVC, maximum overlap: first row with a 1-hook gap
1. Hang the first rowWork across the full rail, leaving a 1-hook gap between each strip.
300 mm PVC, maximum overlap: second row covering the first-row gaps
2. Cover the gapsHang a second row over the first, positioning each strip across a gap.

400 mm wide PVC

Minimum overlap 50%

First row: 5-hook gap

400 mm PVC, minimum overlap: first row with a 5-hook gap
1. Hang the first rowWork across the full rail, leaving a 5-hook gap between each strip.
400 mm PVC, minimum overlap: second row covering the first-row gaps

Maximum overlap 100%

First row: 1-hook gap

The finishing touches

Trim, check and care for your curtain

10 mm

Leave clearance above the floor

Once every strip is fitted and hanging straight, carefully trim each one to approximately 10 mm above the floor using a suitable utility knife. Use a safe cutting surface and keep hands clear of the blade.

Easy to remove. Easy to clean.

You can lift the strips off their hooks when needed, including during the summer months. Clean the PVC using water and a mild detergent, then rehang it in the same overlap pattern.

Correct fitting and regular care help your curtain provide years of reliable service.

How do you install a hook-on PVC strip curtain?

  1. Secure the pre-drilled rail with hooks pointing downwards, using fixings suitable for the supporting structure.
  2. Unroll the prepared strips and hook their attached plates onto the rail.
  3. Follow the specified two-row overlap pattern for the strip width and overlap selected.
  4. Allow the strips to straighten, then trim to approximately 10 mm above the floor using a safe cutting surface.
  5. Check the fixings, overlap and passage through the curtain.

The illustrated steps below explain these checks for our hook-on kits. For a different track system, follow its supplied instructions. Before buying a kit, use the measuring guide; for repairs, see replacement strips.

Simple measuring guide

How to measure for a PVC strip curtain

  1. 1

    Measure the clear width

Measure left to right in millimetres. For face fixing, allow approximately 100 mm beyond each side where space permits.

  2. 2

    Measure the total drop

Measure from the intended fixing point to the floor. Leave a small clearance so the strips move freely.

  3. 3

    Check traffic and temperature

Pedestrians, trolleys, forklifts and freezer environments each benefit from different PVC grades and overlaps.
